Washington, D.C., July 6, 2022 - “Community Conversations: Stakeholder-Identified Research Priorities to Foster Community Participation for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disability” was published by a collaborative team of autistic and research stakeholders from GW, University of Washington, University of Pittsburgh, Augusta University, and Temple University that included Roger Ideishi, JD, OT/L, FAOTA, program director and professor.

“People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are regularly recruited for research but the agenda and outcome is often driven by the researcher rather than the person with a disability. This work is exploring the paths, with the disabled person in the driver’s seat, guiding researchers in areas that impact community participation. We know that inclusivity in society enriches one's life and that should involve research processes as well. We also know that in order for change to happen, we need different perspectives to be heard, acknowledged, listened to, and responded to,” said Roger Ideishi.

At GW, Dr. Ideishi expects this research to continue building the capacity to address the needs, issues, and solutions as identified by the disability community.
